Along the way, there is a forest of Ubamegashi oak trees, which in the past were often cut down to make charcoal. The charcoal-making process can be viewed in the video area of the Visitor Center.

There are a lot of acorns in the forest of Ubamegashi oak trees, so picking up acorns may be one of the most fun things you can do. There are also pine trees between the Tenkū Café Terrace and the Komorebi Terrace, where you can pick up pine cones. The pine cones eaten by the squirrels are left behind in the shape of fried shrimp, and people gather around to look for them.

We set our sights on the summit of Mount Yokoyama, which looks far away from the observatory deck.

It's a 30-40 minute walk through narrow paths and a tree tunnel that looks like something out of “My Neighbor Totoro” in some places. As the name suggests, Yokoyama is a mountain that spreads out horizontally, and it is easy to walk on because it is not so steep. When it gets a little warmer, butterflies may appear and line up around the tree tunnel.

The path to the summit is relatively easy to walk, but there are places where you have to hold on to the ropes along the side. Be careful when passing large deciduous trees as it can be slippery when the leaves have fallen. As you walk along, you will come to a place where the trees are cleared up It is the summit of Mt.Yokoyama, though it may look a little different from what a normal summit looks like.If you look at the bottom of the stones piled up in the shape of a mountain, you will see "Yokoyama Summit" written on it.

There is no special reason for the stones to be piled up hereSomeone started piling them up 5-6 years ago. There is already a small stone at the top, and it might be difficult to pile up more.

A short walk past the top of the mountain brings you to the Mt.Sengensan View Point. From Mt.Sengensan View Point, you can see Ago Bay, as well as Goza Shirahama beach and Hamajima. It must be very pleasant to eat your lunch here.

If you go up the stairs between the top of Yokoyama and the View Point, you will find Mt.Hazako-Sengen, where two stone Buddhas are enshrined. Why don’t you pay your respects there before going to the Mt.Sengensan View Point?
